| There are many World Heritage Sites (UNESCO) in Japan. Horyuji 法隆寺, designated in 1993, is a Buddhist monument in the Horyuji area, located in Nara City, Nara Prefecture, around Osaka City. Himeji Castle, designated in 1993, is located in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, around Osaka City. Kiyomizu-dera 清水寺, designated in 1994, is located in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, around Osaka City. Rokuonji 鹿苑寺, designated in 1994, is located in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, around Osaka City. The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama, designated in 1995, are located in Ogimachi, Shirakawa City, Ono District, Gifu Prefecture, around Nagoya City. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, designated in 1996, is located in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture.
