There are many World Heritage Sites (UNESCO) in Japan. Horyuji 法隆寺, designated in 1993, is a Buddhist monument in the Horyuji area, located in Nara City, Nara Prefecture, around Osaka City. Himeji Castle, designated in 1993, is located in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture, around Osaka City. Kiyomizu-dera 清水寺, designated in 1994, is located in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, around Osaka City. Rokuonji 鹿苑寺, designated in 1994, is located in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, around Osaka City. The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama, designated in 1995, are located in Ogimachi, Shirakawa City, Ono District, Gifu Prefecture, around Nagoya City. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, designated in 1996, is located in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Itsukushima Shrine, designated in 1996, is located in the Hiroshima City area of Hiroshima Prefecture. Todaiji 東大寺, designated in 1998, is a cultural property of the ancient capital Nara, located in the Nara City area of Nara Prefecture, around Osaka City. Oura Cathedral, designated in 2018, is a Christian heritage site located in the Nagasaki Prefecture area. Mozu-Furuichi Kofun Cluster designated in 2019 is located in the Osaka metropolitan area. Sannai Maruyama Site designated in 2021 Prehistoric Jomon site in northern Japan is located in the Hokkaido area.
